For those that are wondering, there are no ranking differences between the Alpha and Beta teams. They live in the same place, work in the same place, and interact together but they do opperate differently.

They were supposed to be the perfect soldier, the elite. Genetically engineered from birth, they were placed into the real world once they were born so that they could act more like humans than soldiers. They were hidden from the public eye, disguised as normal human beings. Them themselves didn't even know they were 'special'. Those that were engineered learned to laugh, love, and play with regular people for all of their young adult life. It was until the wars broke out that their worlds crumbled at their hands. They weren't to be called upon until they were needed and this time, America needed them desperately.
There wasn't a virus or a plague that hit the world, it was the need for power and control. The cold war between Russia and the US finally heated up in 2008 and by Christmas 2008, Russia couldn't take it anymore. The attack was unavoidable. FEMA broke out, trying to help out in a devastation that hadn't been seen since 9/11 and Katrina, but their efforts helped no one. America was leveled in the attack, completely destroyed and devastated from the nuclear bomb. But, it wasn't the bomb that was the problem, it was the fallout after.
As Russian physicists thought about their future plans of take over, the fallout spread throughout the world 'infecting' those who weren't immune. Suddenly, it wasn't just America that was messed up, it was everyone, everywhere. In America, those that survived tried to find shelter and that was when they were approached. These genetically engineered super humans were the last shread of hope America had to rebuilding its empire and killing the infected. So, what was left of the American military banded together and saught out the confidential profiles of these heroes in disguise and recruited each and every one. Some went willingly, some went not so willingly but the group decided that it was best for the country if they all cooperated. Soon enough, the Alpha and Beta teams were created and the mission was set. Find and destroy the infected while trying to stay alive. However, now in 2009, what was left of the American military has been decimated by the infected, cutting military supplies off from the teams. Now, they were on their own with what supplies they had left. Their team had expanded since its start in 2008 but their mission remained the same: defend America, stay alive, and terminate the infected at all costs.
